About the Role

This critical position at NGMVS is centered on delivering essential legal aid and comprehensive case management for sensitive POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) and child marriage cases. The chosen advocate will be instrumental in navigating the legal system, from securing interim compensation for child survivors to coordinating seamlessly with key stakeholders such as the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Police, Judiciary, and the affected families.

Core Responsibilities: Making a Tangible Impact

The Advocate will play a hands-on role in legal support, with duties including:

  • Case Oversight: Meticulously tracking and supporting POCSO and child marriage cases.

  • Compensation Advocacy: Initiating and following up on crucial interim compensation applications for child survivors under government schemes.

  • Strategic Coordination: Building and maintaining robust relationships with vital legal and administrative bodies, alongside survivor families.

  • Counselling & Support: Offering compassionate and effective legal counseling and assistance to children and their guardians.

  • Court Representation: Providing representation or supporting legal counsel in court hearings when necessary.

  • Legal Documentation: Expertly drafting and filing legal applications under relevant sections, including CrPC 156(3) and 200.

  • Reporting & Record Keeping: Maintaining precise legal files, documenting case progress, and generating monthly case reports.

  • Proactive Response: Acting swiftly on new reports of child marriage or abuse in close collaboration with the NGMVS team.

  • Community Empowerment: Actively contributing to the organization's mission to establish "child marriage free" villages through strategic legal interventions and follow-up.

  • Field Engagement: Traveling within Nawada district for essential field visits or court hearings.

Who We're Looking For: Eligibility & Preferred Qualifications

NGMVS seeks a dedicated individual who meets the following criteria:

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) is a must.

  • Professional Standing: Must be currently enrolled with the Bar Council of Bihar.

  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in criminal law, legal aid, or child rights cases, with a strong preference for prior experience in POCSO or child marriage cases.

  • Legal Acumen: A solid understanding of the POCSO Act, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, Juvenile Justice Act, and CrPC is essential.

  • Key Skills: Demonstrated strong coordination, legal drafting, and interpersonal abilities.

  • Preference: Female candidates with relevant experience will be given preference, reflecting the sensitive nature of these cases.

  • Location: Must be based in or prepared to travel regularly across Nawada district.

Compensation

This role offers a competitive monthly remuneration ranging from ?10,000–?15,000, dependent on qualifications and experience. All official travel costs will be reimbursed as per organizational policy.
