Founded in 2002 by a group of young corporate professionals, it has grown into a national development organisation. Smile Foundation is currently implementing projects worth Rs 80 crore across India, directly and through grassroots partners. Most are CSR-funded projects in urban slums and rural areas, including aspirational districts. The knowledge gathered from this work is organised systematically and used to pitch for large, long-term projects and to create data-driven knowledge products.
About the Role
The Assistant Manager will manage budgets, prepare financial reports, and make sure grassroots partners conduct all financial transactions ethically. It is a hands-on position that combines day-to-day accounting with compliance, donor reporting, and audit support.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting and payments
Work as an independent accountant for the project
Process payments as per the Financial Policy
Assist in preparing the organisation's Balance Sheet
Reconciliation
Prepare Bank Reconciliation Statements and other reconciliations monthly
Reconcile bank accounts and the Trial Balance monthly
Reporting and stakeholder management
Prepare donor utilisation statements monthly
Respond to donor queries in a timely manner
Address queries from internal and external auditors
Prepare the monthly MIS and present it to management
Compliance
Maintain working knowledge of Income Tax, FCRA, and GST
Ensure timely compliance with TDS, Professional Tax (10BD), Provident Fund, and other statutory requirements
Fieldwork
Visit field areas for project-related work during implementation, as the organisation requires
Skills, Education, and Qualifications
Candidates should be graduates in B.Com with a post-graduation in M.Com or a relevant field. The technical requirements are:
Proficiency in Technical-XL, PowerPoint, Tally ERP 9, and Microsoft Word
Proficiency in maintaining accounts, TDS, PF, and Professional Tax
Ability to handle and file returns under Income Tax (10BD), PF, and Professional Tax
Working knowledge of TDS, FCRA, and basic GST, which counts as an added advantage
Prior experience in the NGO sector, which is preferred
