The Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), a world-renowned trade union founded by Ela Bhatt in 1972, is expanding its leadership team to further its mission of empowering women in the informal economy. Guided by Gandhian principles, SEWA has grown into a powerful movement of over 3.1 million members across 18 Indian states.

To strengthen its operations in Bihar, SEWA Bharat is currently inviting applications for the position of Associate Programme Coordinator. This role offers a unique opportunity for development professionals to drive grassroots change and support self-reliance among poor, self-employed women.

The Role: Strategic Oversight and Grassroots Impact

The Associate Programme Coordinator will be a central figure in SEWA Bharat’s Bihar operations, reporting directly to the State Coordinator. This multifaceted role demands a blend of strategic planning, financial discipline, and empathetic leadership.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Programme Management: Overseeing the execution of all state programmes, ensuring they meet high-quality standards and donor expectations. This includes regular field visits to monitor progress and verify outcomes.

  • Financial Stewardship: Managing fund disbursements, conducting monthly financial tracking against budgets, and ensuring full compliance with SEWA’s procurement policies.

  • Human Resources & Ethics: Collaborating with HR on recruitment and capacity building, while ensuring all staff adhere to SEWA’s core ethos and mission.

  • Stakeholder & Donor Relations: Managing high-quality data reporting and coordinating donor visits to highlight the impactful work being done on the ground.

Educational Background & Experience:

  • A Master’s degree in Social Work, Development Studies, Management, or a related field.

  • 5–6 years of experience in programme management, preferably within grassroots or community-based organizations.

  • Demonstrated expertise in project coordination, financial oversight, and HR processes.

Core Competencies:

  • Analytical thinking and proactive problem-solving.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build lasting relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • A willingness to travel regularly to various field locations within Bihar.
