Be a Beacon of Hope: Join CanKids KidsCan as a Care Coordinator

Are you ready to make a profound difference in the lives of children and families facing the immense challenges of childhood cancer? CanKids KidsCan, a leading national NGO dedicated to transforming pediatric cancer care in India, is actively seeking a compassionate and driven Care Coordinator. Based at a CHSU/Care Center in India, this vital role offers you the chance to provide holistic support and ensure every child has access to the comprehensive care they deserve.

CanKids KidsCan: Two Decades of Pioneering Change

Established in 2004 by Poonam Bagai, a cancer survivor herself, CanKids KidsCan has tirelessly addressed the critical needs of children with cancer (aged 0-19 years) and their families across India for over two decades. Our ambitious vision aligns with the WHO Global Initiative on Childhood Cancer (GICC) and the Sustainable Development Goals: to achieve Universal Health Coverage by 2030, guaranteeing 100% Access2Care and 100% Financial Protection. This commitment champions the fundamental rights of children to health, education, pain-free and palliative care, and the right to be heard.

What truly distinguishes CanKids is our expansive reach and integrated approach. Operating from grassroots to national levels, we collaborate seamlessly with hospitals, health authorities, and medical professionals to elevate the quality of treatment, care, and support services. Through our vast network of 141 CanKids Hospital Support Units (CHSUs), we ensure optimal care for countless children and their families nationwide. At CanKids, you'll join a dynamic team united by a shared passion for impact and excellence in every endeavor.

Empowering Families: The PNAFE Department

The journey for a child with cancer is often fraught with complex medical jargon, emotional distress, societal stigma, and significant financial hurdles. The Patient Navigation, Advocacy, and Family Engagement (PNAFE) Department at CanKids is specifically designed to alleviate these burdens. By fostering a family-centered approach and empowering patients, parents, and survivors through peer-to-peer support, PNAFE ensures that no family navigates this challenging path alone.

This crucial department strives to:

  • Deliver Patient-Centric Care, keeping the child's well-being at the absolute forefront.

  • Continuously cultivate a robust network of Patient Navigators, Care Coordinators, and Patient Advocates.

  • Amplify awareness about childhood cancer to dismantle stigma throughout society.

  • Elevate the voices of children with cancer, their parents, survivors, and families to all relevant stakeholders.

Your Impact as a Care Coordinator: A Pillar of Support

As a Care Coordinator, you will be a vital link in the chain of support. Your responsibilities will include developing, monitoring, and evaluating personalized care plans for every child – whether they are undergoing active treatment, in survivorship, experiencing relapse, or receiving palliative care. You will be instrumental in implementing a seamless shared care model, guaranteeing uninterrupted services for children and their families. Furthermore, you'll manage CanKids Helplines, offering immediate guidance and comfort. A significant aspect of this role also involves acting as a Master Trainer, enhancing the capabilities of patient navigators, frontline healthcare teams, and local social workers such as ASHA and Anganwadi workers.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Care Coordination: Implementing the transformative CanKids You Are Not Alone (YANA) Programme by creating individualized care plans, offering crucial counseling, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams for comprehensive support.

  • Patient Facilitation: Assisting families with essential resource coordination, including financial aid and accommodation, and navigating complex documentation processes.

  • Patient Advocacy: Upholding patient privacy and dignity, gathering valuable family feedback to enhance satisfaction, and contributing to impactful advocacy campaigns.

  • Master Training: Designing and delivering essential workshops and training sessions for Care Coordinators, Frontline Health Workers, and Patient Advocates, often requiring extensive travel to various states.

  • Management & Administration: Overseeing Patient Navigators, meticulously documenting cases in the Virtual CanKids Assistance Network (vCAN), and generating timely reports.

Who We're Looking For: A Heart for the Cause

CanKids KidsCan seeks individuals who deeply resonate with our values, mission, and vision. A profound respect for the inherent worth and dignity of every individual, especially children with cancer and their families, regardless of their socio-economic background, is paramount. While relevant qualifications and experience are valued, we are open to relaxing these requirements for candidates with exceptional credentials or for cancer survivors with a strong will and intention to contribute to the childhood cancer domain.

This role is ideal for organized, empathetic, and proactive professionals from diverse sectors including Administration, HR, Management, Accounting/Finance, Social Work, Gender Studies, Education, Youth, and Child Development.
