Be the Lifeline: The Crucial Role of a 211 Community Resource Specialist
The 211 information and referral (I&R) line is at the heart of this opportunity. As a 211 Community Resource Specialist, you'll be a vital link, connecting individuals in need with crucial community resources. This free and confidential service operates 24/7, helping people find support for essentials like food, shelter, utilities, and healthcare.
This part-time role (22.5 hours/week) is perfect for those seeking consistent work-life balance, with a set schedule: Mondays (8:30 AM - 3 PM), Wednesdays (9 AM - 3 PM), Thursdays (8:30 AM - 2 PM), and Fridays (11 AM - 3 PM). While fully remote, candidates must reside within an hour of the Kansas City office for occasional on-site training or emergencies.
What You'll Do: Beyond Just Answering Calls
Provide Excellent Customer Service: You'll be the first point of contact, offering compassionate and accurate assistance, adhering to the core principles of CARE: Caring, Accurate and Resourceful, Every call.
Problem Assessment & Referral: Utilize your empathetic communication skills to understand callers' needs and connect them with appropriate local and national resources.
Advocacy: For those who need extra support, you'll act as an advocate, making outbound calls or conducting research to ensure individuals receive the services they need.
Maintain Accurate Records: Document every interaction meticulously in WellSky Community Services and other databases, ensuring seamless service delivery and follow-up.
Continuous Learning: Participate in comprehensive new hire training (approximately 150 hours over 5-6 weeks) and ongoing professional development to enhance your skills and stay updated on community resources. You'll even have the opportunity to apply for Inform USA certification!
Are You the Ideal Candidate?

Key qualifications include:
A minimum of one year of experience in information and referral, contact center, or social services.
Strong customer service orientation and the ability to work respectfully with diverse populations.
Intermediate to advanced computer skills, comfortable navigating multiple databases and platforms (WellSky, NICE inContact, Microsoft Suite, Teams).
A dedicated, private workspace with reliable internet (minimum 50-100 Mbps).
