URJA Trust, a grassroots organisation marking a decade of work advancing gender equality and social inclusion, has announced an opening for a Community Social Worker to join its team in Mumbai. The position, based in the Kurla/Dadar area, reflects the organisation's continued push to expand trauma-informed, survivor-centred support for marginalised women, young people, and adolescents.

URJA Trust works at the intersection of gender equality and community empowerment, providing safe spaces, holistic health and wellbeing services, and livelihood support to young women survivors of violence. Its approach is rooted in trauma-informed care, working both directly with communities and in coordination with broader systems of support and referral. The Role
The Community Social Worker will be a full-time position reporting to the Programme Coordinator. The role centres on building trust and relationships within communities — engaging directly with women, young people, and adolescents through outreach, group facilitation, and awareness activities.
Core responsibilities include:
Leading community outreach and relationship-building with residents and local stakeholders
Facilitating group sessions and psychosocial support
Identifying individual needs, risks, and vulnerabilities, and connecting people to appropriate services
Coordinating with government bodies and other stakeholders on referrals
Supporting community mobilisation and participation in ongoing programmes
Maintaining case records and follow-up documentation
Contributing to monitoring, reporting, and organisational learning
Upholding URJA's values of confidentiality, dignity, non-discrimination, and safeguarding
Who URJA Is Looking For
Candidates should hold a bachelor's or master's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Humanities, or a related field, along with 2–5 years of relevant experience. The organisation is prioritising candidates with a background in community-based work, casework, facilitation, or psychosocial support, and a clear understanding of gender equality, social justice, and community-based approaches.
Strong communication skills, sound documentation practices, and comfort with basic computer work are essential. Fluency in Marathi and Hindi is required, with working knowledge of English preferred. The role also calls for willingness to travel within the community and work flexible hours when needed.
Beyond technical qualifications, URJA is looking for competencies that reflect the sensitive nature of the work: empathy, active listening, case management, documentation, teamwork, and problem-solving.
