The Project: Integrated Lung Health Initiative for Tribals (iLIFT)
The Field Officer will be crucial to the implementation of Project iLIFT (integrated Lung Health Initiative For Tribals) in Korba district, Chhattisgarh. This region, which is a major contributor to India's coal production, faces significant health challenges related to respiratory issues, compounded by the large presence of the beedi rolling community. Exposure to coal dust, silica, and high rates of respiratory issues among beedi workers makes the need for integrated health solutions urgent.
Project iLIFT directly addresses the fragmentation in healthcare delivery—where programs for Tuberculosis (TB), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and Asthma often operate in silos.
iLIFT's Two-Pronged Strategy:
Community Reach: Organizing health camps to provide integrated screening for TB, Chronic Respiratory Diseases (CRDs) like COPD and Asthma, as well as other NCDs such as Diabetes, Hypertension, and Sickle Cell Disease (SCD).
Facility Strengthening: Empowering public health facilities through training, deployment of technology like Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) and spirometers at sub-district levels, and institutionalizing necessary assessment tools at Health & Wellness Centres (HWCs) for patient identification and referral.
By generating local evidence and working closely with state-level TB, NCD, and SCD programs, the project aims to ensure its model is sustainable and scalable across the state.
Your Role: Field Officer Responsibilities
The Field Officer will report to the District Supervisor and will be the on-the-ground anchor for project implementation, operating on a 3rd Party Payroll arrangement. Your role is dynamic, requiring independence, resourcefulness, and a strong work ethic in a challenging environment.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Health Facility Support: Documenting existing processes and assisting the District Supervisor in training health facility staff on project operations and the use of new diagnostic equipment. You will coordinate activities across facilities to ensure efficient patient journeys, from sample testing to diagnosis.
Camp Operations: Providing essential support during community health camp activities, ensuring smooth and effective execution.
Field Insights & Improvement: Sharing crucial field-level observations to continuously improve the efficiency of both facility-based and camp operations.
Data Monitoring: Ensuring accurate data collection, timely reporting, and monitoring in line with the project’s Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) plan.
Qualifications for Success
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, results-oriented, and possess a strong commitment to public health.
Essential Requirements:
Experience: A minimum of 2+ years of experience in the social sector, with a strong preference for candidates with public health field operations experience, especially in TB/NCD programs like COPD/Asthma.
Education: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, strong team-working, and networking abilities.
Commitment: Willingness to travel extensively within the district. Experience working in Chhattisgarh is preferred.
This role is a chance to contribute to a world-class health organization, driving integrated solutions and generating evidence to strengthen India's public health system.
