The Opportunity: Finance & Accounts Officer

HI India is looking for a Finance & Accounts Officer to play a crucial role in ensuring the financial integrity and compliance of their projects. This is a fixed-term, renewable contract position, exclusively open to citizens/residents of India.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Financial Oversight & Compliance: Ensure project accounts adhere to HI's internal procedures, donor guidelines, and Indian legal requirements. This involves meticulous monitoring and timely submission of monthly financial reports and closure documents.

  • Accounting & Reporting: Oversee bank reconciliations, manage logbooks, and conduct thorough accounting controls. You'll be responsible for ensuring payments and remittances comply with local regulations, taxation laws (GST, TDS), and accounting standards.

  • Risk Management: Identify potential financial risks and proactively propose mitigation measures to the finance manager.

  • Documentation & Audit: Maintain clear documentation and audit trails for accountability and donor reviews, and prepare for and facilitate internal and external audits.

  • Budget Management: Prepare and monitor cash flow forecasts, assist in project budget forecasting, and ensure expenses align with approved budgets.

  • Donor Reporting: Support the preparation and submission of essential donor financial reports.

  • Record Keeping: Maintain proper documentation and systematic archiving of financial records (both soft and hard copies).

Who We're Looking For

HI seeks a candidate with a strong financial background and a passion for humanitarian work.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, CA-Intern, or a related field.

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in financial, accounting, and compliance management, preferably within the NGO, development, or corporate sector.

  • In-depth knowledge of Indian financial regulations, taxation (GST, TDS), FCRA, and statutory compliance.

  • Proficiency in financial software such as Tally, Navision, or similar accounting systems.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing financial reporting for donor-funded projects.

  • Fluency in both English and Hindi is essential. Knowledge of the Mizo language would be an advantage.

  • Experience and knowledge in establishing and meeting statutory compliances related to Section 8 will be a significant asset.
