About the Organization
Akshaya Patra is one of the world's largest not-for-profit organizations implementing the government's Mid-Day Meal Programme. It operates across more than 16 states and over 78 kitchens, serving more than 2.25 million meals and 1 million morning snacks to school children every day. The foundation has set a target of 6 million meals a day by 2030. Its mission is to eliminate classroom hunger and promote education through a scalable, sustainable, and efficient food delivery model. What the Role Involves
The Lab Chemist will be responsible for the quality of food at every stage, from raw materials to the finished product. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
Laboratory work: preparing, classifying, and labelling samples, running tests on various laboratory equipment, analyzing results, and documenting findings.
Records and reporting: maintaining all laboratory records, documenting activities and results, and reporting back to management.
Compliance and safety: following correct procedures, policies, and health and safety regulations, and reviewing all food safety measures and instructions.
Quality assurance: ensuring the quality of raw materials and finished products, checking process compliance, identifying quality issues, and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
Training and documentation: keeping training records up to date and making sure employees are current on quality standards.
Digital systems: supporting the rollout of a paperless QA documentation system and ensuring timely, accurate data entry in the QA app.
Housekeeping and admin: cleaning and sterilizing equipment and the work area, collecting and preparing information for studies, and handling basic administrative tasks such as filing and answering phones.
Skills and Qualifications
Akshaya Patra is looking for candidates with:
Strong knowledge of food safety standards, including FSMS, ISO 22000, and ISO 45001
Expertise in nutritional value calculations and ERP systems
The ability to manage audits, certifications, and compliance reporting
Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to zero-deviation standards
Strong leadership in QA documentation and digital systems
A good understanding of laboratory information systems and automated laboratory equipment
Good verbal and written communication skills
Good analytical abilities
Location and Experience
The position is based in Vrindavan, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, and the organization is seeking candidates with 1 to 2 years of experience. Local candidates are preferred.
