FULU Foundation Seeks Passionate Policy Associate in Chicago to Champion Consumer Tech Rights

In an era where technology is deeply woven into the fabric of our lives, the question of who truly owns our devices and digital content has never been more critical. A new Chicago-based organization, the FULU Foundation, is stepping into the ring to fight for consumers, and they are looking for a dedicated Policy Associate to help lead the charge.

This full-time, mid-level position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of consumer rights and digital ownership from the ground floor of a mission-driven organization.

About the Mission: Reclaiming Control Over Our Tech

The FULU Foundation is a newly formed nonprofit with a bold vision: a world where buying a product means you have the full right to use, repair, customize, and understand it without interference. The organization exists to expose anti-consumer practices, challenge restrictive legal frameworks, and build a culture that values true ownership. Through powerful storytelling, strategic advocacy, and public education, FULU aims to shift both policy and public perception, empowering consumers everywhere.

The Opportunity: A Hybrid Role for a Modern Advocate

FULU is seeking a detail-oriented Policy Associate to spearhead its research, documentation, and content creation efforts. This is not a typical policy role siloed in an office corner. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, managing cross-functional projects that merge in-depth policy research with compelling content creation, including for platforms like YouTube.

As an early team member, the Policy Associate will play an essential part in defining the foundation's strategic direction and policy goals. The position is based in Chicago, IL, and offers a competitive salary range of $80,000 to $90,000.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Research & Analysis: Conducting deep-dive research into technological and policy issues at the core of consumer protection and digital ownership.

  • Content Creation: Translating complex legal and technological concepts into accessible fact sheets, reports, and blog posts for lawmakers, media, and the public.

  • Project Management: Coordinating team-wide projects, monitoring state legislative proposals, and ensuring strategic initiatives stay on track.

  • Strategic Support: Collaborating with the team to support organizational priorities and adapt to new opportunities as they arise.

Who Should Apply?

FULU is looking for a professional with a proven track record in research and outstanding written communication skills. The ideal candidate can distill dense technical or legal jargon into clear, persuasive language that resonates with diverse audiences.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Strong Research and Analysis Skills: Ability to identify reliable sources, review literature, and use data to support advocacy.

  • Excellent Written Communication: Demonstrated experience creating high-quality policy briefs, reports, or similar materials.

  • Operational Excellence: Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage a high volume of work in a fast-paced setting.

While not required, candidates with a scrappy, solutions-oriented mindset and a working knowledge of policy debates around the Right to Repair, privacy, and digital ownership are strongly encouraged to apply.

Why Join the FULU Foundation?

This role offers more than just a job; it's a chance to make an immediate and lasting impact. The successful candidate will work directly with the founders, enjoy a flexible work environment with remote options, and have access to professional development opportunities within a rapidly growing organization.

The priority application deadline is Friday, September 12, 2025.
