Shaping Safer Sanitation: Urban Management Centre Is Hiring a Program Coordinator in Delhi
Behind every well-functioning city is a sanitation system that works, and behind that system are people who design policies, build data systems, and support the workers who keep it running. Urban Management Centre (UMC) is now looking for one such professional to join its Technical Support Unit for the National Action for Mechanized Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE) Program, implemented under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.
About the Role
The Program Coordinator position, based in Delhi, sits at the intersection of urban sanitation, public systems, data, and programme implementation. The person in this role will work closely with national and state government teams, supporting the rollout of NAMASTE while contributing to guidelines, capacity building, and knowledge products that strengthen safe and mechanised sanitation across the country.
What You Will Do
Support NAMASTE implementation, working closely with Ministry and UMC teams.
Develop guidelines, policies, SOPs, and user manuals for sanitation workers.
Build and analyse programme databases and data collection systems to identify trends and insights.
Support training and capacity building for local, state, and central governments.
Coordinate with National and State Programme Management Units (PMUs) and UMC's technology team to keep implementation on track.
The role blends field-facing policy work with analytical rigour. It is as much about turning data into decisions as about writing a manual that a sanitation worker can actually use.
Who Should Apply
UMC is looking for candidates who bring:
Education: A Master's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Development Studies, Management, or a related field, or a Bachelor's degree with relevant experience.
Experience: 4–7 years in urban planning, preferably in sanitation, solid waste management (SWM), liquid waste management (LWM), poverty alleviation, occupational health and safety, or community development.
Analytical skills: Strong ability to work with both quantitative and qualitative data.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal English, plus at least one other Indian language.
Technical proficiency: Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with State or National Government is an added advantage.
