Empowering Waste Pickers: Hasiru Dala Announces Opening for State Coordinator in Bengaluru

The circular economy is only as strong as the people who power it. In Karnataka, Hasiru Dala, a leading non-profit dedicated to social justice for waste pickers, is scaling its impact. The organization has officially announced an opening for a State Coordinator – Social Protection (Waste Pickers Program) to lead critical social security initiatives from its Bengaluru headquarters.

Advancing Social Justice Through Systemic Change

Hasiru Dala has long been at the forefront of advocating for a people-centric, decentralized approach to solid waste management. By focusing on identity rights, education, healthcare, and housing, they ensure that waste pickers—the backbone of urban sustainability—are not left behind.

The newly announced State Coordinator role is pivotal to this mission. This leader will bridge the gap between high-level strategic planning and field-level execution, ensuring that social security schemes reach those who need them most.

Key Responsibilities of the State Coordinator

The role is multifaceted, requiring a blend of administrative oversight and hands-on community engagement. Key pillars of the position include:

  • Strategic Planning & Enumeration: Developing state-level plans for data collection and mapping relevant government social security schemes.

  • Program Management & Operations: Executing action plans, training field staff on mobile applications for data tracking, and documenting monthly case studies and success stories.

  • Fund Management: Overseeing state-level budgets and ensuring compliance with organizational financial guidelines.

  • Monitoring, Evaluation, & Learning (MEL): Ensuring accurate data reporting and conducting field visits to assess program impact and identify areas for improvement.

Who is the Ideal Candidate?

Hasiru Dala is seeking a professional who combines program management expertise with a passion for social equity.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience: Prior background in program management, specifically within the NGO or social sector.

  • Skills: Strong stakeholder management and the ability to lead capacity-building initiatives.

  • Technical Knowledge: A solid understanding of government systems and social security schemes is highly preferred.

  • Adaptability: A problem-solving attitude and the ability to thrive in field-level environments.

Language Requirements: Fluency in English and Hindi is mandatory. Proficiency in Kannada or Marathi is considered a significant advantage given the regional focus of the program.

Reporting Structure and Collaboration

The State Coordinator will report directly to the Director of Regional Expansion. The role is highly collaborative, requiring daily interaction with the MEL team, Finance team, and various partner organizations to ensure a unified approach to waste picker welfare.
