Empowering India's Youth: Breakthrough Seeks Consultants for Gender Equality Initiatives in Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh, India – Are you driven to make a tangible difference in the lives of young people and champion gender equality? For a quarter-century, Breakthrough has been at the forefront of social change, engaging adolescents and young adults aged 11-24. Their mission: to empower an entire generation to challenge entrenched norms and instigate lasting change. Through their impactful work, they've already reached nearly 2.3 million adolescents, equipping them with enhanced agency, crucial negotiation skills, and elevated aspirations to forge a more equitable world.
The Core of the Role: Driving Change at the Community Level
As a Consultant – Youth Engagement, you will be instrumental in leading local initiatives and taking ownership of programs designed to address critical community challenges. Reporting directly to the Block Coordinators, your responsibilities will include:
Stakeholder Collaboration: Fostering engagement with frontline workers (FLWs), Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members, and other vital community stakeholders at the village level.
Inclusive Development Planning: Facilitating community meetings to support the creation of village development plans, ensuring a strong gender perspective is integrated.
Youth Mobilization & Empowerment: Identifying and establishing youth groups, strategically engaging approximately 300 young individuals (40 per Gram Panchayat) to become active participants in the program. This also involves organizing and leading regular meetings with local youth groups, directly involving around 200 youth.
Awareness & Action Campaigns: Orchestrating and supporting community-based youth events, awareness drives, campaigns, and mobilization efforts. A key objective is to significantly raise awareness on issues of gender equality and social norms, aiming to reach 30% of parents.
Comprehensive Documentation & Reporting: Meticulously documenting all field activities, compiling data, and submitting timely reports in line with project requirements.
Community Safety Mapping: Supporting and conducting detailed mapping exercises in a minimum of 10 communities, with a specific focus on identifying safe and unsafe zones, particularly from the perspective of women and girls.
Impact Monitoring & Follow-up: Continuously monitoring and following up on Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) findings, ensuring that issues identified during PRA activities are effectively addressed through community discussions and subsequent actions.
Program Support: Providing essential support to the team and supervisors for the successful execution of "Ratri Chaupal" events, youth melas, and various other community activities.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Breakthrough is seeking dedicated individuals who possess the following qualifications:
Educational Background: An intermediate or graduation degree is required.
Age Requirement: Candidates must be a minimum of 19 years old.
Interpersonal Aptitude: Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse external stakeholders, including youth, families, students, schools, and government representatives.
Communication Proficiency: Excellent communication skills in Hindi, English, and relevant local languages.

This is a contractual position, with an agreement valid until March 31, 2026.
